DES MOINES, Iowa – Even as a senior-laden Texas men's basketball team readied for Thursday's NCAA first-round game against Colgate, the future of the program earned more recognition. Ron Holland, a Longhorns signee from Duncanville, was named the Gatorade state player of the year Wednesday. The 6-foot-8 forward, a McDonald's All-American who's rated as a five-star prospect by virtually every recruiting service in the nation, will join four-star guard AJ Johnson as the two freshmen in Texas' 2023 class.
